Support Dream On
Donations go to Educational Programs that Benefit The Dream On Kids
Dream On Foundation extends a few opportunities to the Dream On Kids that they otherwise would not have.During the school year, 2 hours of tutoring is offered every Monday and Thursday after school. Of the 16 Dream On Kids at the school near the tutoring center, 14 learn in this program. Because the tutors are volunteers, it costs only $35 per child for the whole school year. What a deal!
The second semester of this school year, the kids will participate in an art after school program on Tuesday and Wednesday. The end product is a play performed by the Dream On Kids. Their ability to speak in front of people and their self-esteem are increased by the theater arts. The entire program, including an instructor, renting the space, materials to build a set, costumes and snacks amounts to $289 per child.
Combining tutoring and the after school program, we will be offering a constructive, purposeful activity in a safe and structured environment 4 days of the week. Research indicates that children who participate 2 or more times per week in co curricular school activities of music, art, drama or creative writing programs are more academically successful (Search Institute). And, they encourage students to remain committed to school and develop habits of life-long learning.
Summer Camp is our largest expenditure. Last summer, the kids enjoyed Arts Collinwood Summer Camp in the morning, and our own camp in the afternoon. The cost of the morning camp plus renting space in the afternoon, transportation to and from camp, a story teller, supplies and 2 counselors costs a little more than $1,000 per child. The largest expense is transportation; most of the children would not be able to attend without it. They also enjoyed many free activities, such as the reading program at the library, Jungle Terry, fishing at Wildwood State Park, swimming at the local pool, building sand castles at Euclid Beach Park and other activities in their neighborhood of Collinwood. These activities are treasured summer memories for so many children and are rarely part of everyday experience for urban children.
As you consider making a donation to the Dream On Foundation, keep in mind what great opportunities you are providing to inner city children living in poverty. Without our assistance, their future is uncertain. With our assistance, the world is open to them as they apply themselves to their studies knowing they can realize their dreams.
