The first thing you will notice about Jalia is her smile. I can guarantee it, because she smiles a lot. When I asked what to write about her, she immediately said that she loves to play, laugh and learn. She loves everybody and cares about others.
Jalia has participated in all the Dream On Kids activities so far, both summer camps, all the holiday parties, the after school programs and tutoring. This summer she had a foot operation to correct flat feet. Did that keep her from coming to summer camp? Absolutely not! When the kids were swimming, playing frisbee, jumping rope or swinging, she would play board games. She loves to sing and watch the sun go down. What was her favorite thing at camp? Everything! She had a great fun time, even with a cast on her foot.
When I asked all the Dream On Kids what they wanted to do next summer, Jalia had an idea we must follow up on. She wants to go to a water park and some museums. She has not been to the Children’s Museum yet, nor the Great Lakes Science Museum. We will definitely add those trips to camp next summer.
Jalia’s mom, Lydia Tyner, is a nurse assistant for people needing help in their homes. Her sister, Charlissa, age 18, baby sits and her brother, Jerrard, age 15, attends Shaw High School. She loves to play with pets, but does not have one in her home. She just had the other foot operated on and is confined to home for a while. Her mom got some work from school so she does not fall behind. She loves school and misses being there with her friends.
